Varsity Tutors, a premier private tutoring and test prep service, is seeking a talented Ruby on Rails Developer to join our highly entrepreneurial team. We're one of the fastest growing companies in education and we're looking for a talented developer to help build out our tools, systems and infrastructure to help us scale and continue our national expansion. The Rails Developer will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and be involved in strategic and operational technology decisions. Use one of our talented Italian tutors for free) and a group of passionate colleagues with whom they will work to scale Varsity Tutors nationally. This is a remote, work from home position.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem
• Experience with the Rails 3.x framework
• 3+ years of experience with relational databases
• Experience w/ testing tools & frameworks (RSpec, Cucumber, Selenium)
• Experience with Ruby 1.8.x and Ruby 1.9.x
• Experience working with JSON, REST, XML-RPC
• In depth knowledge of jQuery
• Experienced with Git
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field) *or* a resume that will really impress us (past work, open source projects etc.)
Pluses
• Hands-on experience with Rails framework upgrades (major and minor upgrades)
• Hands-on experience with Ruby language upgrades
• Experience with Redis and other NoSQL technologies
• Understand AB Testing
• Worked with cloud technologies (Amazon services, Engine Yard, Heroku, OpenStack)

• Turning mockups into fast, efficient JavaScript-driven pixel perfect front-end implementations
• In depth knowledge and experience with CSS, SCSS a big plus
• Work with multiple testing frameworks
• Developing, improving and expanding scalable backend services
