OCLC is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials.
The OCLC Diversity and Inclusion Initiative offers internship opportunities designed to provide unique experiences for aspiring college students. The majority of the Intern openings are targeted for members of underrepresented groups as defined in a manner consistent with the EEO-1 race/ethnicity reporting classifications. OCLC will begin accepting applications for the internships on December 5, 2011. Deadline for the applications is February 27, 2012, with an anticipated start date no later than June 18, 2012. The OCLC Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program is open to candidates matriculating towards an academic degree (either undergraduate or graduate) at an accredited college or university. All applicants must provide proof of enrollment during the application process and before the internship starts.
Length of Intern assignment: 1 Year (40 hours in the summer; 20 hours during school year).
Location of Assignment: Columbus (Dublin), Ohio
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Intern will implement software services at the user interface, web services, and application logic levels in support of Platform Services, the OCLC Institution Registry, and the Digital Collection Gateway.
* He or she will participate in requirements definition, design, code, test tasks which are appropriate for their skill level and experience. Work with mentors on the development team to understand the task and receive constructive guidance in completing the task.
* The Intern will articipate in team-level requirements and design discussion on more complex task assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required skills: Java, Linux, XML, HTML, JDBC
* Desirable: Javascript, XSLT, YUI or other UI toolkit, experience with Oracle or Mysql, engineering process courses, at least Junior standing in major course of study.
